This Cajun spice mix is one of my favorite seasonings to use while baking, grilling or pan-frying fish, shrimp or scallops. I am not sure if there is a traditional Cajun seasoning recipe. Except for a few basic ingredients, most people like mix it up a little and add their own touch. I like to kick the flavor up a notch by adding cumin and coriander powders. Enjoy this Cajun spice mix, but feel free to add your creativity to the recipe.
3 tbsp hot paprika
1 tbsp cayenne chili powder
1 tbsp onion powder
2 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp dried oregano, finely ground
1 tbsp dried thyme, finely ground
1 tbsp ground black pepper
1 tbsp celery powder
1 tsp cumin powder (optional)
1 tsp coriander powder (optional)
2 tbsp salt
½ tbsp
1 Mix all the ingredients in a bowl till they are well combined.
2 You will need about 2 tsp for 0.5 lb of fish filets such (such as salmon, halibut, cod). Store the spice mix in the airtight container in a cool place. It will remain fresh for about 6 months. I like to store it in a refrigerator.
